Leaving goes smoothly when you close things in the right order. Keep your QID and bank account active until money owed to you has arrived, and clear anything you owe — unpaid debts, cases or fines can stop you leaving.

Find help for this

Before you start

  • Your employment contract and resignation or termination letter
  • Your lease (check the notice period)
  • KAHRAMAA account number
  • Vehicle registration (Istimara), if you own a car

Step by step

  1. Give notice

Follow the notice period in your contract and get written confirmation of your last working day.

  2. Agree your final settlement

Ask for a written breakdown of end-of-service gratuity, unused leave and final salary.

  3. Clear what you owe

Check Metrash for traffic fines. Settle or arrange loans and credit cards with your bank. Unpaid debts and open cases can lead to a travel ban.

  4. Sell or export your car

Transfer ownership through the Traffic Department so future fines aren’t linked to you.

  5. End your lease and close KAHRAMAA

Give notice to your landlord, do a joint move-out inspection, take final meter readings and close your KAHRAMAA account so the QAR 2,000 deposit can be refunded.

  6. Cancel family residence permits

Family residence permits depend on yours. Cancel dependants’ permits through Metrash before your own is cancelled.

  7. Close phone and bank last

Cancel postpaid plans and internet. Close your bank account only after your final settlement and deposits have arrived.

Common mistakes

  • Closing your bank account before your final settlement is paid.
  • Forgetting to close KAHRAMAA — the deposit is only refunded after closure.
  • Leaving the car registered in your name after selling it.
