Renew your Qatar ID
Check your expiry date, who renews it, what you need and how to avoid daily late fines.

- About QAR 500 per year

Your residence permit and QID need renewing before they expire. If you are employed, your company’s PRO usually handles it — but it is your status, so keep an eye on the date yourself. Family sponsors renew their dependants’ permits directly.
Before you start
- Your current QID number
- A passport with enough remaining validity (renew it first if it is close to expiry)
- Valid health insurance, where your permit type requires it
- For dependants: marriage or birth certificates and proof of salary or housing, if asked
- A recent passport photo, if requested
Step by step
Check your expiry date
In Metrash, open Residency Permit services — the expiry date is shown there. Or use the residency permit inquiry on the MOI portal with your QID number.
Start 1–2 months early
Renew your passport first if it will expire soon. If your employer renews for you, remind HR in writing a month before expiry.
Renew online
Employees: your PRO submits the renewal. Family sponsors: in Metrash go to Residency → Renew Residency, select the dependant, and pay by card.
Or renew in person
Visit an MOI service centre if your case is complicated or you are asked to update your fingerprints.
Confirm the new date
Once approved, your new expiry date appears in Metrash and on the MOI portal. Save it in your reminders.
What it costs
| Residence permit renewal | About QAR 500 per year |
| Late renewal | Daily fine after expiry |
Official fees at the time of review. Fees change, so confirm before paying.
Common mistakes
- Leaving it until the last week — a passport or insurance problem can then push you past expiry.
- Assuming your employer has renewed it. Check the date in Metrash yourself.
- Forgetting dependants’ permits, which often expire on different dates from yours.
